Konica Minolta to Quit the Photography Game
Sad news rocking the photography world today:
Konica Minolta Leaves Photo Industry
For me this is sad news. In the late 90s, after a break from photography, I decided to get back into it and I needed a camera. I hit the local pawn shop and talked the owner down in price on a Minolta X370 with a 50mm prime and a 70-210mm zoom, and he threw in an ugly old camera bag to boot. After running a few rolls through it, I discovered it was a wonderful camera, with lenses that gave a nice super sharp and bit extra contrasty. Just my style. You can see alot of images from the camera in my photoblog or on Flickr.
Last November, I was able to test out a Minolta 5D… a new little DSLR from Konica Minolta. I liked it alot. Light and fun… good pictures and built-in IS. I wish I could have kept it, and I was looking to upgrade to a Minolta digital someday (from my Canon D30).
I also just purchased a Minolta hi-matic to add to the photo family.
I’m saddend by this news… and the dying off trend of the industry. Film is a slowing fading legacy… one that I believe shouldnt die… but progress waits for no man, or development times.
