What's your Gear?

I’m window shopping for new gear… sort of. I’d like to get a body that’s at least 6-megapixels. I’m trying to shoot more stock photography and with a lot of sites, my 7year old d30 (3meg) isn’t going to fly. Its a good camera, makes good 8×10s and smaller. I’m working on shooting for a living, and while most of work will be portraits (and using medium format and larger), I was planning on supplementing the workload with shooting stock photography.

So I was just wondering… what do you guys shoot with? I’ve been reading reviews and looking at examples. I know Rannie/Photojunkie is usually a Canon shooter, but has just recently been selected to use a Nikon D80 for awhile. What do you think so far, Rannie? What do the rest of you like and dislike about your cameras? Also post a link or thumbnail to your best shot in the comments!

addendum: If Nikon or any PR firms working with Nikon read this, I’d love to test and promote your products. I think I’d really want to make the switch and use Nikon gear. Email to contact

  1. i hope it’s not stock photography for a microsite like istockphoto or shutterstock.. biggest waste of your time.

  2. I’ve submitted to the microstocks in the past. And generally they are a waste of time. I havent had too much luck at them. I heard that istock isnt too bad, and can create some money.

I’m actually talking with a traditional stock agency that is interested in me. They are going to place some of my images in the next couple of weeks. And I’ve talked with one agency about a year ago and they wanted to see more of a certain style that I had. So I need to go back and contact them again.
